The Royal Yacht Britannia is also known as Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia and is the 83rd in a long line of sea-going vessels belonging to the British Monarch going back as far as 1660.

The Royal Yacht Britannia was constructed in Glasgow in the early 1950s coming into service in the year 1954.

The Royal Yacht Britannia was constructed with a duel purpose accordintg to some accounts: she was designed in such a way that she could easily be converted to a hospital ship in times of war though this event never came to pass.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana took their honeymoon aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1981.

The Royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned on 11 December 1997. A replacement was not built.
