Saturday 24th April 2009
Unfortunately Gala were not able to fulfill the fixture on the 18th April as they had 'commitments at the Dunfries 7's' that weekend. This has resulted in them being deducted 4 points. However, the game still has to be played and the SRU have designated the 2nd May for the game to be played. This is however, the Gala 7's and also the 'Magic Weekend' at Murrayfield, so we will keep you updated with the news about the final fixture of the season.
Saturday 11th April 2009
This Saturday sees Leith close their 2008/2009 season. Leith will play host to Gala YM who they suffered a defeat to earlier in the season at Gala. This should be a good game as Gala still have an outside hope of qualifying to the East Div 1 and Leith obviously want to finish above Moray House and Inverleith.
Kick Off is at 3 o clock at Acamdey Park so get down to enjoy the game and some refreshments in the bar afterwards.

This weekend Leith play host to Earlston on Saturday who are chasing promotion. Kick Off at Academy Park is 1500.
Friday 6th March 2009
Leith Academy s.2 and s.3 team came 3rd in the HSBC Super 15's tournament which was held at Union Park. Leith were unbeaten on the day, but two draws let them slip into 3rd behind Craigmount and winners Boroughmuir.
Saturday 7th February 09
Leith traveled the short distance along Ferry Road to play local rivals Inverleith on Saturday. After suffering a narrow defeat to Inverleith at Academy Park earlier in the season Leith were determined to turn things around. The game started off at a fast pace, however a serious injury 20 minutes into the match broke the rhythm of the game. Thankfully David Montgomery has fully recovered after a collision in midfield saw the openside flanker injure his neck. A special thanks should go to the Inverleith physio.
After the match was restarted it was Leith who regained their composure and Craig Smith sold a dummy and went in underneath the posts for the games only try. This was only shortly after he missed a penalty with the ball hitting off the left hand upright.
The second half saw Inverleith dominate most of the play with the slope of the pitch and the sun playing to their advantage, Leith only really looked like scoring twice in the second half. They did however, manage to subdue the Inverleith attacks with good defending and a try saving tackle from Gareth Marshall.
Final Score
Inverleith 0 vs Leith 7
Saturday 17th January 09
Leith Rugby club secured a first league victory after the Christmas break with a hard-fought 15-13 win over Royal Dick Veterinary College (RDVC) at Peffermill on Saturday 17th January 09. Leith managed to re-group after a disappointing, heavy defeat to Dalkeith the previous week in the Bowl. Dalkeith are currently bottom of East Division One, one Division above Leith. Dalkeith obviously didn't let the Christmas break effect them as much as Leith did. The Dalkeith game seems to have acted as a warm up for the return to League action for Leith.
Leith dominated the first half against RDVC with much of the first half being played in the Dick Vet half, however, it was RDVC who scored first with an unconverted try just before half time. Leith came back in the second half and scored one converted try and one unconverted to make the score 12-5. In the dying minutes of the match RDVC scored a try and a penalty to make the score 12-13 with four minutes to play. Leith went straight down the pitch and were rewarded with a penalty for killing the game inside the RDVC half... but just out of kicking range. Ill discipline let Dick Vet down as they were then marched 10 metres further down the pitch and into kicking range. With the last kick off the match Ryan Burgess put over the penalty to win the match 15-13.
Unfortunately, Leith could not keep the winning form as they lost to Edinburgh Northern at Academy Park on 24th January. Leith went down 10-25, however the score does nothing to reflect the possession and territorial advantage that Leith had in the game which they largely dominated. Leith only lost out due to lack of concentration for two short spells which made it difficult to come back from.
Leith have a weekend off on the 31st January, returning to league action on 7th February against Inverleith at Ferry Road.

GAME CANCELLED
Scottish Hydro Electric Plate Round 1
Leith RFC vs Dalkeith RFC @ Academy Park
This game has been cancelled due to Academy Park being unplayable. This is down to the recent weather and the fact that three games had to be played in 2 days on the pitch. Hopefully the Christmas break will give the pitch a chance to recover and Leith can get 2009 off to a good start.
Friday 19th December 08
Unfortunately Leith Academy exited the Bell Lawrie Bowl at the Quarter Final stage last Friday. They were put out by Currie/Balerno High School, who are turning out to be Leith's 'bogey team' as it was Currie/Balerno who knocked Leith out of the Bell Lawrie Scottish Cup.
Although Leith lost, they can look to all of the positives from the game. They played against a much improved and much more physical Currie/Balerno team and yet managed to reduce the margin of their victory to half of the previous game. This is also the farthest that Leith Academy have ventured in the Bell Lawrie competitions' history. The improvement in Leiths performance was highlighted by the Currie/Balerno coach who saw a remarkable difference from the start of the season.
Congratulations to Currie/Balerno and all the best in the rest of the competition.
Final Score:
Leith Academy 0 vs Currie/Balerno 27

Last week Leith Academy progressed into the Quarter Final of the Scottish Hydro Electric Bowl. Unfortunately it was due to Dalziel not being able to raise a full team. Both Leith and Dalziel were disappointed at not being able to go through after what promised to be a hard fought encounter, however, this result now sees Leith progress to the furthest point in the trophy ever. They have been drawn against Currie/ Balerno High School in the Quarter Final, time and date to be confirmed.

Leith Rugby Clubs' Scottish Cup fixture, against Edinburgh Northern, was cancelled at the last minute on Saturday. Both teams had taken to the pitch for a warm up when the decision was taken that the pitch was unplayable. The option to move the match to Academy Park was dismissed and hopefully the fixture will be played this weekend at Inverleith Park.

24/10/08: More Good News For Leith Academy.
After Leith Academy under 18's secured their first victory in 4 years and their first EVER win in the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Bowl, the school has received more good news.
Both Craig Allan and Graham Southall have been selected for the Edinburgh Under 17 Squad. Both Craig and Graham had excellent performances against Langholm and it is great news for all concerned.
At a younger age group, Kyle Kirkland has been included in the s.2 Pathways Squad. This is a great opportunity for Kyle who has impressed all coaches at training.
With these three players being recognised at District level and the schools progression in the Bowl things are looking good for the rest of the season and everyone will be trying to build on this.
Leith Academy vs Langholm Academy: Match Report: 15/Oct/2008
After suffering a heavy defeat to a strong Currie/Balerno side in the Preliminary Round of the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Cup, Leith Academy under 18's progressed through to the second round of the Bowl yesterday (15/Oct/2008) at Academy Park.
Leith played hosts to Borders team Langholm Academy. Leith started well and made good progress near to the Langholm line, only to be let down by a handling error. The Langholm stand off used the wind and the sun to their advantage by putting up high balls and kicking well for touch. This tactic paid off as Langholm opened the scoring with a converted try. Leith quickly responded and looked much the better team in the first half. Leith went into the break leading 24-12.
In the second half Leith did not take advantage of the conditions as Langholm had done in the first half. Langholm also came out physically stronger in the opening period off the second half and Leith began to let Langholm back into the game by playing to their tactics. With the score 29-24 to Leith and with Langholm disrupting the Leith team it looked as if the home side, with just under 15 minutes to play, were going to throw the game away. However, some good spoiling play and solid tackling from the Leith forwards allowed space for the backs with two tries being run before the final whistle.
The game was an entertaining one throughout and was appreciated by all on the touchlines.
Final Score:
Leith Academy 39 vs Langholm Academy 24
