News: September 2010:
Release 05 On Renegade Screw (RS05)
Vandalene - Spamula EP

The first Vandalene release on Renegade Screw 'Spamula EP' showcases his unique take on house and techno music with drops of African thumb pianos, Steve Reich inspired repetition and a whole lot of gritty character.
Opening the EP is the Four Tet indebted 'Back On Track' with its pulsing house bassline and driving drums exploding into a melody of kalimbas to end the track. The next track is 'Four Kalimbas' with obvious reference to Reich, this is more ambient than the previous track whilst continuing the African vibe.
The dark 'Get Me Our Money' follows with its dubby vocal cuts and funky bassline changing the mood of the EP. The next track is the very slow moving, ambient 'Trains' which continues the dub feel with nods to Basic Channel and Aphex Twin’s ambient works.
The EP climaxes on the stand-out track 'Mephedrone' which is dowsed in darkness. A droning bassline accompanies paranoid piano sounds crackling within a ferocious minimal techno beat.
This artist from Edinburgh has been hanging on the fringes of the music scene for many years after being involved in Leith’s seminal ‘Shambles Hat Productions’ and legendary underground band ‘The Mile’.
Avid followers will recall a number of Blind Foley's DJ sets, all committed under the false name of DJ Shambles. Legend has it that Phat Koknoz attended one of these sets and vowed afterwards in an emotionally charged statement "i will never listen to Dylan again".
After a period in isolation, Blind Foley was tracked down by some minimal enthusiasts who persuaded him to pick the mouse up and play again. Now, Blind Foley’s music is as diverse as his musical influences with sounds ranging between everything from the acidic funk of 70s Herbie Hancock to the alkaline groove of Ninja Tunes.
His recent release ‘Leith Mindstate EP’ on Renegade Screw has been on the end of a phenomenal number of downloads with over 10000 since it was unleashed at the beginning of 2010. On the back of this Foley was contacted by SubTek records and was subsequently signed. Blind Foley will continue to produce and collaborate within Reneagde Screw and recent news suggests he's working with Method and will also be releasing further EP's through this Label.
