Positioned just at the beginning of Leith Links, on the corner of Constitution Street and Queen Charlotte Street, the Compass is a regular stop for many Leithers. The dominating feature in the Compass is the grand bare stone wall that runs along one side and provides the backdrop for the regularly updated artwork. This use of natural materials, with stone and wood of varying tones and hues provides an ideal 'canvas' for local artists.

And the Compass is most certainly at the upper end of the ‘gastro pub’ echelon with a menu that, with exception of the inclusion of those necessary pub staples, would put many a well considered bistro to shame. On reading the hand-written menu you quickly see that the people behind the Compass put a great deal of thought into keeping it fresh. Many a worthy restaurateur could tell you the difficulties involved in a daily menu but the Compass carry it off with an ease that smacks of a professionalism not often found in this price range.
