Coburg House Art Studios:

"Coburg House Art Studios are home to more than 70 artists working in a wide range of disciplines. The building also houses a bright and spacious multi-purpose gallery.
"

At Coburg House Art Studios you’ll find a hub of creativity, with a combination of home-grown and international professional fine and applied artists, producing outstanding and original individual pieces.

This converted granary provides various sized spaces for all types of artists in Edinburgh as well as a split level gallery space available to rent on a weekly/monthly basis. Over the years the artists have organised various open days and group exhibitions, with great success. We remain privately run and attract wide acclaim for the community feeling within the art studios.

For information on renting studio spaces please contact John Gibson on coburgwaitinglist@yahoo.co.uk

Courses

The programme of courses and workshops for 2010 is under way.  New courses and workshops are added to the programme on a rolling basis. Please see the dedicated Courses Page for full information.

Open Studios

Coburg House is well known for its Open Studios Events, where you can visit the artists in their studios and see and buy their latest work before it goes out to galleries.  The next event takes place in August.  Put 7 and 8 August in your diary for a fascinating day out.

The origin of the Coburg Street name

From the early 1700s it was recorded as part of the ancient Wester Road into North Leith from Bonnington. It received its current name in 1817 the year that Prince Leopold of Saxe Coburg (later Queen Victoria ’s beloved ‘Uncle Leopold’) visited Edinburgh. He had married Princess Charlotte, daughter of the Prince Regent (later George IV) in 1816, but after she died in childbirth, Leopold became quite popular, even being named a free burgess of the city of Edinburgh in 1819. Other streets are named after him such as Saxe Coburg Place , Leopold Place and the Claremont Streets recall the name of Prince Leopold’s home in Esher in Surrey .
